From March 25th to 31st the town of Cagliari will host several events to celebrate the week of culture, organized every year by the Ministry for Cultural Activities and now at its tenth edition.
The slogan selected for the occasion ‘A celebration for the entire community’ is intended as an invitation to the people of the town to enjoy the artistic and environmental heritage the island boasts.In Sardinia approximately eighty events have been organized by the local Departments of Culture, State Archives and many Libraries, with the cooperation of numerous other public and private institutions, some of which participating through organisation of their own initiatives or merely by granting free or discounted admission to places of culture.
In view of their particular importance, the following events of excellence have been listed on the institutional website www.beniculturali.it,:
- the exhibition ‘ Underwater Archaeology’ at the National Archaeological Museum in Cagliari;
- the exhibition ‘1848-1948. Sardinia from the Albertine Statute until the Constitution of the Italian Republic and the Statute for Regional Autonomy’ c/o the Euclide Lyceum in Cagliari;
- the conference ‘Cagliari retrieves an important historical monument: the complex of Santa Croce’ in the Basilica di Santa Croce (Basilica of the Holy Cross) in Cagliari;
- the new opening of the Picture Gallery MUS’A in the ex Canopoleno cloister in Sassari;
- the exhibition ‘Asinara, borderline island. The transit of populations in Ercole’s footsteps’ set up c/o the Cala Reale ex-Maritime Health Unit on the Asinara island;
- the educational itinerary ‘A Mandas si scende…! (Last stop: Mandas) Cultural itinerary on the Trenino Verde (Green Train)’, devoted particularly to the blind and deaf. The train will leave Monserrato Station, stopping at several stations and terminating in Mandas.
Throughout the area exhibitions will be set up, providing the possibility to gain information and further studies into various subjects during conferences, attend the presentation of publications or acquisitions of works and take part in educational initiatives. The participants, with the guide of experts, will be able to visit sites and museums, take advantage of the once-off opening of the Torre del Coltellazzo in Pula, attend theatre performances, film screenings, and music concerts.
During the Week of Culture admission to public archaeological areas, monuments and museums as well as to private locations taking part in the initiative will be free.
