354^ Sagra of Sant’Efisio

354^ Sagra of Sant’Efisio

An extended weekend full of things to do in Cagliari.

 Friday May 1st

  • Sagra di Sant’Efisio. The most important event on the island, taking place every year since 1656 in honour of the Saint who saved the town from the plague. More than three thousand people on foot and another two hundred on horseback join the procession dressed in their finest traditional costumes. A unique occasion on which to admire the finery of the Sardinian garments and the intricacy of the gold jewellery. The procession accompanies the simulacrum of the Saint from its abode in the church of the Stampace quarter throughout the streets of the old town and on to Nora, the site of the Saint’s martyrdom.
